How long have you been an egg farmer?

I have been the egg manager here for about 9 years.

How many generations has your family been egg farming?

While our colony has been egg farming since being established in 20023, we have been egg farming for at least 3 or 4 generations.

Why did you first get into egg farming?

I started out just helping in the barn and then as our production grew, I became the egg manager.

What does being an egg farmer mean to you?

Being an egg farmer means we provide Albertans with fresh, nutritious food every day.

What do you enjoy the most about being an egg farmer?

I take pride in caring for our laying hens, making sure they are healthy and happy.

What other livestock do you raise and/or crops do you grow on your farm?

We have dairy cows, hogs, and we also farm 10,000 acres of crop land.

How does it make you feel to know that you provide your fellow Albertans with fresh, nutritious, local food?

It makes me feel good knowing that we produce a healthy food, and that Albertans and Canadians have access to high-quality and local food.

If there's one thing you'd like the public to know about egg farming/or egg farmers, what would it be?

Laying hens in Alberta and across Canada are well cared for. Our birds are raised in a safe and healthy environment, have access to fresh feed and water, free of added hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.  All Canadian egg farmers follow the national Animal Care Program and Start Clean – Stay Clean, the national food safety program.

What is your favorite egg recipe?
