We are first generation egg farmers, and the second generation is already involved with our egg farm. Our family has raised chickens for personal use for many years, but we just started our large layer facility in 2016.
Our kids, especially our oldest son, has always been somewhat of an entrepreneur. He even operated his own small scale chicken barn, raising both layers and broilers. When this opportunity came up we thought it would be a perfect fit for us and him, and a great opportunity to expand and run a larger operation.
It means we are able to contribute to the food production in Alberta, for Albertans.
We have always enjoyed the farming lifestyle and community.
We currently have our crop seeded in Alfalfa, and we also have horses.
We enjoy knowing that we are raising healthy birds, for healthy eggs, in a free-run environment.
There is more to egg farming than just a few birds laying eggs. It is quite the production and requires a lot of hard work, cost, time and energy to produce the healthy eggs that you can find in your favorite grocery store every day.
