How many generations has your family been in egg farming?

Our colony has been egg farming since 1970, and I am a third generation egg farmer.

Why did you first get into egg farming?

My grandpa and dad were egg farmers as I was growing up and, as a young boy, I got to really like chickens a lot, so it just came naturally for me to get into the chicken and egg industry.

What do you enjoy most about being an egg farmer?

I enjoy going into the barn and seeing a happy, healthy, content flock of laying hens.

Do you raise any other livestock and/or crops on your farm, in addition to your egg laying hens?

Our colony also has broiler chickens, turkeys, dairy cows, sheep, ducks, geese, a feed lot, and we grow wheat, barley, canola and peas.

How does it make you feel to know you provide your fellow Albertans with fresh, nutritious and delicious, locally produced eggs?

Fantastic! It makes me feel really good about doing the right thing

If there is one thing you would like people to know about egg farming and/or egg farmers, what would it be?

“I would like everyone to know that all egg farmers work hard to ensure our birds are healthy and happy at all times, and are very well cared for. No matter which hen housing system a farmer has, we treat our birds well, since caring for them is our number one priority every day.”
