Morinville Colony Egg Farm Tour

Egg Farmers of Alberta (EFA) is proud to represent the province’s more than 150 registered egg farmers, who are all hardworking and passionate people.  EFA is honoured to have had the privilege of welcoming several special guests onto one of our egg farms in the Morinville area.  The kind folks at Morinville Colony played host to Mr. Neil Korotash’s Urban Agriculture class from Morinville Community High School, as well as Ms. Maureen Kubinec, MLA for Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock, giving them the opportunity to tour the colony’s egg barn and grading station.

Morinville Colony – the reigning Alberta Egg Producer of the Year – was delighted to open their barn doors for the tour, which was an educational opportunity for the students, to get a first-hand look at a modern egg farm.  Everyone in attendance gained a better understanding of where their food comes from and how it was produced, along with a greater appreciation for the dedication of Alberta’s egg farmers.  The students were engaged and asked many questions about egg farming, animal welfare, food safety and supply management.  On hand to help answer the questions were Paul Wurz, Morinville Colony’s Egg Manager, and his assistant Robert, as well as Susan Schafers, Chair of EFA’s Board of Directors.

Supply management provides Alberta’s egg industry with a stable environment which allows farmers to dedicate themselves to providing Albertans with safe, high quality, nutritious and delicious, locally produced eggs and egg products.  This uniquely Canadian system ensures that Alberta farm families will continue feeding Alberta families – from our farms, to your plate!
