Fort McMurray Fire

The Egg Farmers of Alberta staff and Board of Directors, along with all of the province’s egg farming families and industry partners, were shocked and saddened to hear the news about the devastating wildfires that are burning out of control in and around Fort McMurray, Alberta.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected by this tragedy.  Fort McMurray is in a state of emergency and the city is under a mandatory evacuation order, as part of the largest wildfire evacuation in Alberta’s history.

The most recent update is that the wildfires have grown to encompass 85,000 hectares, to the south of the city.  More than 100 firefighters, 10 helicopters and 16 air tankers are fighting the wildfires, while more than 200 firefighters and 25 trucks are protecting homes and buildings in the city itself.*

Alberta Egg Industry Comes Together

The Alberta egg industry has rallied together to help contribute to the relief efforts.  Egg Farmers of Alberta has donated $5,000 to the Red Cross, and are working with the provincial graders – Burnbrae Farms and Sparks Eggs – to donate 1,800 dozen eggs to the Edmonton Food Bank.
