Profile – Susan Schafers

My name is Susan Schafers, and I am the Vice Chair of the Egg Farmers of Alberta’s Board of Directors.  I am in my 11th year as a Director with EFA.

I have been an egg farmer for most of my adult life.  Growing up on an egg farm provided me the roots for my love of agriculture.  I am an Albertan through and through, having been born in Edmonton and now calling Stony Plain home, where I live with my three children.  I enjoy spending time with my kids, kayaking, crafting, baking, camping with friends and family, and travelling.

I believe it was important for me to become a Director so that I could help shape the Alberta egg industry.  I enjoy working with other egg farmers and learning more about our industry.  I believe EFA is successful because we take a forward-looking and proactive approach.  We work in collaboration with egg farmers and the rest of the egg industry, and prepare egg farmers on a variety of issues so they can plan for changes in the future.

Looking ahead, I believe that we are going to see an even greater interest from consumers and other stakeholders in how we farm.  Technology continues to evolve rapidly, and social media is playing a larger role all the time.
