Pony Cookies (Pet Treats)

Ingredients

  • 2 36g packets regular instant oatmeal
  • 500 mL (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) granulated sugar
  • Pinch dried rosemary, optional
  • 1 large apple, grated
  • 2 medium carrots, grated
  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) raisins, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) canola oil
  • 125 mL (1/2 cup) honey, molasses or maple syrup
  • 75 mL (1/3 cup) oats

Directions

Preheat oven to 180° C (350° F). In a large bowl, mix oatmeal, flour, sugar, rosemary, apple, carrots, and raisins. In a medium bowl, blend egg, canola oil, honey, molasses or syrup and water. Add dry ingredients to liquid ingredients. Stir until completely mixed. Using tablespoon, drop small mounds of the mixture onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until crisp on the outside, about 15 - 20 minutes. Cool. Store in a tightly sealed container.

Yield:

36 Cookies.

Note

As carrots and apples vary in water content, an additional 15 mL (1 tbsp) water may be needed so dough slides easily from spoon to cookie sheet.

Variations

Use 4-6 sweet crabapples rather than an apple; substitute cooked and mashed pumpkin or squash (176 mL or 3/4 cup) for carrots.
